There are over 3,000 persons affected by advanced cataract living in Trincomalee and it is very unfortunate that they have to live for the rest of their lives visually impaired.

The current President launched this programme and she contemplates to perform 50 cataract surgeries and to donate 200 pairs of spectacles to the poor and needy free of charge.

Each cataract operation costs approximately $35 and a pair of spectacle costs $15. During the club’s fund raising program they contacted us, and we were able to donate $250 towards their project.

Lions Club of Wantirna Inc:, help sponsor a Seeing Eye Dog named ‘Winter’.

Four members accepted an invitation to attend an open day Sunday 18th November at their Melbourne Complex located in Kensington.

The opening was well attended by sponsors and the general public.

A short address was conducted by one of their leaders, on the workings of dog training and care.

We witnessed training from “puppyhood” to the hand over to a client.

Members were very impressed with the facilities from the inside training course to the grassed exercise area.
